NASA has invited the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to join its ambitious plan to build a long-term human base on the Moon.

The proposed Moon base is planned near the lunar South Pole. It could include astronaut living areas, power systems, rovers and communication networks. The aim is to create the infrastructure needed for humans to live and work on the Moon for longer periods.

The invitation was discussed during the India-US Civil Space Joint Working Group meeting in Bengaluru. The two countries also spoke about cooperation in space science, commercial space and technologies for human spaceflight.

The proposal adds to the growing partnership between NASA and ISRO. The two space agencies are already working together on the NISAR mission, which is designed to study changes on Earth.

However, there is one important point: NASA has invited ISRO, but India has not yet officially accepted the proposal.
