The PhD will no longer be a prerequisite for the Assistant Professor position: The UGC Chief
According to M. Jagadesh Kumar, Chairperson of the University Grant Commission, assistant professor positions at central institutions will not require a PhD in philosophy.
NET certification will be adequate for the position, M. Jagadesh Kumar said at the opening of the UGC-HRDC building on the Osmania University (OU) campus.
The professionals without a PhD were taken into account when making the decision. Before, there were few chances available for those who had extensive teaching experience but were unable to obtain a PhD.
The one nation, one data portal is currently under development and seeks to provide candidates with all UGC guidelines and other crucial information. The National Digital University will start offering quality instruction straight to students the following academic year.
The Commission’s rules requiring a PhD for hiring assistant professors were earlier made public by the central government. The Covid-19 pandemic delayed the new rules from going into effect in 2021 as planned. It is anticipated to be put into effect by July 2023.
