Ukrainian Woman Amazed by India’s Premium Cinema Experience, Highlights Key Differences From Europe

A Ukrainian content creator has gone viral after sharing how India’s movie theatre experience surprised her. From airport-style security checks to ordering food from a seat, she said the experience was very different from what she had seen in Europe.

Sandra, who is married to an Indian, shared her observations in an Instagram post titled “Indian Cinema vs European Cinema.” She compared cinemas in India with those in Europe and pointed out several differences.

Airport-Like Security Stands Out

Sandra said the experience begins even before entering the theatre.

She explained that moviegoers in India go through strict security checks. Staff inspect bags and use metal detectors before allowing entry. She joked that the process felt similar to passing through an airport, except there was “no passport stamp.”

She added that theatres in Europe usually have much lighter security. According to her, the difference was one of the first things she noticed.

Food Options Impress the Visitor

Sandra said Indian multiplexes offer far more food choices than European cinemas.

Instead of serving only popcorn and soft drinks, many theatres in India have full menus with complete meals. She said people can enjoy proper food instead of relying only on snacks.

She also tried the cheese-flavoured popcorn. However, she found it much spicier than expected and joked that foreigners should be prepared for the heat.

In comparison, she said European cinemas usually offer popcorn, chips and soft drinks. She added that her favourite version of cheese popcorn is still the one available in Europe.

Ordering Food From the Seat Was a Surprise

The feature that impressed Sandra the most was in-seat food delivery.

She explained that customers in India can enter the auditorium, sit down and order food through an app while the movie is playing. Theatre staff then deliver the order directly to the seat.

She said the service was convenient, although her order arrived during the movie and took some time. Even so, she felt the feature was something European cinemas could learn from.

Intermission Feels Unusual

Sandra also spoke about India’s tradition of having an intermission.

She understood the need for a break during long Bollywood films. However, she was surprised that even shorter Hollywood movies often include a 15-minute interval.

She said this practice is not common in European cinemas.

Different Ways of Watching Hollywood Films

Sandra also compared how international movies are shown in different countries.

She said Indian cinemas usually screen Hollywood films in English with English subtitles.

In Poland, movies are shown in English with Polish subtitles. In Ukraine, Hollywood films are generally dubbed into Ukrainian without subtitles.

Clean Theatres in Both Regions

Despite the differences, Sandra praised the cleanliness of cinemas in both India and Europe. She said both regions maintain their theatres well.

She ended her post by asking followers which cinema experience they preferred and what differences they had noticed while watching movies in different countries.

Social Media Users Share Their Views

Sandra’s post attracted many comments from social media users.

Some people disagreed with her opinion about spicy cheese popcorn. They said the flavour was not spicy at all.

Others asked whether European cinemas offered premium recliner seats and spacious couple seating like many Indian multiplexes.

Some users also defended India’s strict security checks. They argued that extra screening helps visitors feel safer.
