Heavy Monsoon Rains Trigger Rise in Krishna River, Flood Alert Issued

Continuous heavy rainfall across Maharashtra has led to a sharp rise in water levels in the Krishna River and several of its tributaries, prompting authorities to remain on high alert in flood-prone areas.

The intense monsoon spell, particularly across the Western Ghats and districts such as Satara, Kolhapur, and Sangli, has caused rivers to swell, while several dams and reservoirs have witnessed a significant increase in inflows. In some areas, overflowing rivers have submerged low-lying roads and bridges, disrupting traffic and affecting daily life.

Officials have urged residents living near riverbanks to stay alert and avoid venturing into flooded areas as water levels continue to fluctuate. Emergency teams have been deployed in vulnerable regions, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any untoward incidents.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of Maharashtra, raising concerns over further increases in river levels, localized flooding, and landslides. Citizens have been advised to follow official advisories and exercise caution while travelling during the ongoing monsoon spell.
