Harper’s Bazaar Author of the Year is Geetanjali Shree, the winner of the Booker Prize.

The 2022 International Booker Prize laureate, author Geetanjali Shree, received recognition on Saturday at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards 2024 in Mumbai. In the author’s category, Geetanjali Shree took home the prize.

In her acceptance speech, Geetanjali Shree dedicated her award to Hindi literature. “I am really honoured and truly delighted to have been chosen for this award. But no award is just to the individual who gets it. The award is also to the world which has nurtured that individual and her work and has brought her here. So this award also belongs to Hindi and Hindi literature and to all literature in Indian languages,” she said.

Readers have been enthralled by the vivid storytelling of Hindi novelist and short story writer Geetanjali Shree. She is the author of five collections of short stories and six novels. Numerous Indian and international languages have translated her work.

‘Tomb of Sand’ (Ret Samadhi in the Hindi original) was the title of Geetanjali Shree’s 2022 International Booker Prize. She was the first writer from India to win the award.

The Warwick Prize for Women in Translation was also awarded to the book.
