Theo James Will Play “The Monkey’s” Lead Character
There will be a new Stephen King novel adaptation.
According to Deadline, Theo James will play the lead role in a movie based on Stephen King‘s short story “The Monkey,” which was first published in Gallery magazine in 1980 and then collected in the book Skeleton Crew. The plot centres on two brothers who discover a monkey toy that bangs cymbals and kills everyone who is in its way.
James, who is well-known for his work in the Divergent film series and his recent performance in the second season of HBO’s The White Lotus, will play the lead role in the movie. Osgood Perkins, who previously directed Gretel & Hansel and I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, will write and direct the movie. James Wan, the director of Saw and Aquaman, who is also producing a future movie based on King’s 1975 novel “Salem’s Lot,” is one of the movie’s producers.
The movie’s announcement comes just one day after it was revealed that Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill would star in a movie version of King’s novella “The Life of Chuck.” Two of the numerous King adaptations now in development are the two projects.
Telling Deadline, Wan,
“Stephen King is the godfather of the horror genre. He had a huge influence on me as a child and throughout my career, and it’s always been a dream to help bring one of his stories to life. ‘The Monkey’ is a personal favorite, with its simple, iconic and incredibly marketable conceit. And I can’t imagine anyone better than a visionary and lifelong genre fan like Osgood to bring this to life.”
