Godrej DEI Lab and Westland Books Launch ‘Queer Directions’ Imprint to Champion LGBTQIA+ Voices
Mumbai, May 14, 2025: Godrej Industries Group’s diversity and inclusion arm, Godrej DEI Lab, has joined hands with Westland Books to introduce a new publishing imprint named Queer Directions (QD). This initiative aims to amplify LGBTQIA+ voices across various literary formats, starting with nonfiction and poetry and later expanding into fiction.
In its inauguration year, Queer Directions plans to release six titles that spotlight queer identities, experiences, and creative expression. The imprint is designed to foster deeper connections between queer writers and a wide readership, including both LGBTQIA+ audiences.
Parmesh Shahani, author of Queeristan and Head of Godrej DEI Lab, will lead the imprint as Series Editor. Commenting on the launch, Shahani shared, “We aim to create bridges, not boundaries. As queer rights face increasing threats globally, this imprint offers a platform for genuine, emerging voices within the LGBTQIA+ community. It stands as a symbol of solidarity and a celebration of the rich diversity within queer lives, inviting engagement from all readers.”
Westland Books, which has previously championed numerous notable LGBTQIA+ publications, strengthens its commitment to queer literature through this new initiative.
“We have long aspired to establish an imprint that is thoughtful, inclusive, and truly intersectional—one that supports and nurtures emerging LGBTQIA+ voices,” said Karthika V.K., Publisher at Westland Books. “With Queer Directions, that vision becomes reality. Partnering with Godrej DEI Lab and Parmesh Shahani brings the depth and dedication needed to make this imprint impactful.”
The launch of Queer Directions underscores Godrej Industries Group’s ongoing dedication to equity and inclusion. It also highlights the importance of collaboration in broadening the landscape for diverse storytelling and inclusive representation.
