Sharjah Book Fair 2026: Kerala CM V.D. Satheesan Among Notable Guests

The world of books is preparing for a major celebration as the Sharjah International Book Fair returns for its 45th edition from November 4 to 15, 2026, at Expo Centre Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. Among the notable personalities expected to attend is Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, whose participation is likely to attract attention from the Indian expatriate community, particularly Malayalis living in the UAE.

Organised around the theme “Made of Stories,” the fair will bring together authors, publishers, artists, and cultural figures from across the globe. More than a celebration of books, the event offers a space where stories cross borders, cultures meet, and readers discover perspectives beyond their own.

According to the event announcement provided, this would also be Satheesan’s first visit to the UAE since taking office as Chief Minister.

A Meeting Place for Writers and Ideas

The 12-day literary gathering will feature an impressive line-up of international authors and cultural personalities. Among those expected are Nigerian-born writer Nnedi Okorafor, British bestselling novelist Clare Mackintosh, Chinese novelist and screenwriter Liu Zhenyun, and Indian actress and author Shenaz Treasurywala.

The event will also welcome Filipino historian and writer Ambeth R. Ocampo, American translator and writer Daisy Rockwell, and Canadian-American writer John Vaillant.

Their participation reflects the fair’s wide literary reach, bringing together voices from different countries, languages, and creative traditions. Through author interactions, discussions, and cultural programmes, visitors will have opportunities to explore the stories, experiences, and ideas that shape contemporary literature.

A Global Gathering of Publishers

The 2026 edition is expected to feature 2,673 publishers and exhibitors from 124 countries, alongside 106 writers, artists, and intellectuals representing 25 countries.

Around 1,500 cultural, artistic, and creative activities are planned throughout the event. The programme will include literary discussions, workshops, author meetings, live performances, and activities designed for both children and adults.

The fair will also serve as an important meeting ground for publishing professionals. Discussions on translation, publishing trends, international rights, and industry partnerships will create opportunities for publishers to connect with new markets and take stories to a wider audience.

For aspiring writers and established authors alike, such events can open doors to new collaborations and introduce their work to readers beyond familiar markets.

Oman Takes Centre Stage

Adding another cultural dimension to the event, Oman will be the Guest of Honour at this year's fair. Its programme will highlight the country's literary heritage, history, traditions, and cultural identity.

The Omani delegation is expected to include 50 participants, among them 41 writers and poets. Visitors can look forward to cultural discussions, children's workshops, artistic performances, music, and traditional folk presentations.

The showcase will offer readers an opportunity to discover Oman's literary landscape and experience aspects of its heritage through storytelling, performance, and artistic expression.

Bringing the World Together Through Books

The Sharjah International Book Fair has grown into an important platform for readers, writers, publishers, and cultural institutions from around the world. Its appeal lies not only in the books on display but also in the conversations and connections that develop around them.

The 2026 edition is expected to continue that tradition, encouraging cultural exchange, supporting international publishing partnerships, and introducing audiences to diverse literary voices.

With international authors, a strong global publishing presence, and a special focus on Omani culture, the fair promises a rich experience for book lovers and industry professionals alike.

The expected participation of Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan adds an Indian connection to this international gathering, particularly for Malayalis in the UAE. As Sharjah prepares to welcome visitors from across the world, the fair once again highlights the enduring power of books to bring people together, one story at a time.
