India contributes 44 educational programmes to the 2023 QS World University Rankings.
44 programmes offered in India have made it to top 100 QS World University Rankings by Subject, 2023. Previously 35 programmes had made it to the list. Various premier institutes also featured in the list. India is the second Asian country to have top-rated universities, only next to China.
The recognised subjects or programmes offered in India includes Computer science, Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Management Studies, and Physics, as claimed by QS Quacquarelli Symonds. The mathematics programme offered is rated 92nd and 98th globally in IIT Bombay and IIT Madras, respectively. IIT Kanpur’s and IIT Delhi’s electrical engineering programmes have received rankings of 87th and 49th, respectively. The QS World University Rankings are currently in their thirteenth iteration. IIT Kanpur’s Computer Science and Information Systems is rated 96th.
With a rating of 94, IIT Kharagpur leads the world in providing Computer Science and Information Systems. In terms of sociology, Jawaharlal Nehru University and University of Delhi came in at 68th and 91st, respectively. Director of QS Research Ben Sowter stated “One of the biggest challenges faced by India is educational – providing high-quality tertiary education in the face of exploding demand: this much was recognised by 2020’s NEP, which set the ambitious target of a 50% gross enrolment ratio by 2035” .“It should therefore provide some reassurance that the number of Indian programs featuring across our 54 subject rankings and five broad faculty areas has increased this year – from 299 to 355 this year,” he added.
Every year, India’s results increased by 17.2%. Engineering and technology, humanities, life sciences and medicine, natural sciences, social sciences, and management are among the five main subject categories that QS World University Rankings by Subject, 2023 has recognised in India.
