John Louis: From Curious Young Reader to Thriller Novelist
The journey of John Louis as a writer is a story that has come full circle. What began as a childhood love for books hidden inside school textbooks has grown into a fulfilling career as a novelist crafting gripping thrillers.
Early Life and Love for Reading
John Louis was born into a Malayalee family that settled in Visakhapatnam during the 1960s. His childhood was shaped by a deep curiosity for stories and imagination. The school library at St. Aloysius High School became his favorite place, where countless afternoons were spent exploring new worlds through books.
Adventure and mystery captured his imagination early on. He eagerly read the works of Enid Blyton and followed the thrilling investigations of The Hardy Boys. These stories sparked a fascination with storytelling and planted the seeds of creativity that would later define his journey as an author.
His growing interest in literature soon found an outlet when he became part of the school magazine committee. This experience allowed him to experiment with writing and marked the beginning of his lifelong connection with words.
A Career That Shaped His Stories
Although writing was always close to his heart, John chose a professional path in engineering. He pursued a career as a mechanical engineer, a role that allowed him to travel extensively across India and beyond.
His work took him to many diverse regions including the rural landscapes of Bihar and Odisha, the breathtaking Andaman Islands, and later to Oman. Each destination introduced him to new cultures, people, and experiences. These encounters left a lasting impression and eventually became valuable inspiration for his storytelling.
The richness of these experiences gave depth and authenticity to the characters and settings that would later appear in his novels.
The Beginning of His Literary Journey
After years of professional life and travel, John returned to the passion that had quietly grown within him since childhood. Writing became more than just a hobby. It became a calling.
His debut novel, Final Conquest, marked the beginning of his literary journey. The book introduced readers to his ability to combine suspense, emotion, and layered storytelling.
He followed this with another compelling work, Killer’s Burden, a novel that dives deeper into the complexities of human psychology while maintaining the tension and intrigue of a powerful thriller.
Through these books, John established himself as a writer who enjoys exploring the darker, more intricate aspects of human nature while keeping readers engaged with suspenseful narratives.
Life After Early Retirement
Today, John Louis lives in Kerala after opting for early retirement from his engineering career. This new chapter of life allows him to focus entirely on writing and creative expression.
When he is not developing new story ideas or working on manuscripts, John enjoys several personal interests. Chess remains one of his favorite pastimes, offering both challenge and relaxation. He also enjoys travelling with his family and, fittingly, continues to read widely.
Books remain a constant presence in his life, just as they were during those early days in the school library.
A Passion That Found Its Way Back
John Louis’s journey shows how passions sometimes take time to find their place. From a curious schoolboy fascinated by mystery novels to a writer creating his own thrilling stories, his path reflects dedication, experience, and love for storytelling.
Some passions never fade. They simply wait for the right moment to come home.
