Barak Valley and Dima Hasao Celebrate 164th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore
The 164th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated with reverence and enthusiasm across Assam’s Barak Valley and Dima Hasao regions on Friday.
Various cultural organisations came together to honour the legendary Bengali poet, reflecting the community’s deep respect and admiration for his literary and philosophical legacy.
In Silchar, the main celebration was jointly organised by Silchar Municipality, Lions Club Silchar Central, and Arya Sanskriti Bodhoni Samiti. The event began with a floral tribute ceremony at Tagore’s statue near the India Club junction, attended by local MLA Deepayan Chakraborty and other notable dignitaries.
The programme continued with a vibrant line-up of cultural performances, including dance, music, and poetry recitations. Eminent speakers also shared insights into Tagore’s life, his thoughts, and his timeless contributions to literature, art, and society.
Beyond Silchar, celebrations extended across the entire Barak Valley and Dima Hasao, coordinated by organisations such as the Barak Upatyaka Banga Sahitya O Sanskriti Sammelan and Bangla Sahitya Sabha, Assam. Events were held in various clubs, educational institutions, and cultural centres, making it a truly widespread tribute to the iconic figure.
