Michelle Obama to Release Her Second Book, The Light We Carry, This Fall

The new book will share Obama’s personal reflections on “change, challenge, and power.”

After the huge success of her acclaimed memoir “Becoming” in 2018, former US first lady Michelle Obama has announced the release of her second book, “The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times”, later this year. The book, scheduled to release on November 15, will be published simultaneously in 50 different languages and 27 countries around the world, with additional languages and territories to be announced, publisher Penguin Random House said in a statement.

In The Light We Carry will reportedly see Obama share a number of stories and reflections on “change, challenge, and power,” according to Variety. Obama’s sophomore effort will be just as hefty a read as her first, coming in at 336 pages.

Obama states in the book’s introduction: “I’ve learned it’s okay to recognize that self-worth comes wrapped in vulnerability, and that what we share as humans on this earth is the impulse to strive for better, always and no matter what,”

Obama writes in the intro of the book, per Variety. “We become bolder in brightness. If you know your light, you know yourself. You know your own story in an honest way. One engaged community can ignite those around it. This is the power of the light we carry.”

She also shared the news of her upcoming release, available November 15, on social media alongside a quick video clip, during which she talks about how the world’s current political and social climate helped shape the outlook of the book. Since she released “Becoming”, including “An uprising” and a “Rising tide of hate, bigotry, and intolerance.”

On November 15, the book will be made available worldwide, four years after Becoming publication.
