Anand Ranganathan was born on 4th of December, 1972 in state of Tamil Nadu in India and both of his parents were scientists. His father, Subramania Ranganathan was a bioorganic chemist, a professor and the head of the chemistry department at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Kanpur. While his mother, Darshan Ranganathan was an organic who was known for her work in bioorganic chemistry, including “Pioneering Work, in Protein Folding.” The two are well-known scientists for having done some real important work in their respective fields. While his wife, Sheetal Ranganathan who is a graduate of AIIMS and XIM, is a columnist on global health and science outreach.
Well, Dr. Anand Ranganathan obtained his BSc (Hons) degree, in Chemistry from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi in 1992. He then travelled to Cambridge, in UK where he obtained a Nehru Centenary Scholarship to study at the University of Cambridge, where he obtained his BA (Tripos) in Natural Sciences, his MA, and his PhD. When he finished his Doctorate in Philosophy, then he came back to India and started his professional journey as a scientist.
